This utilizes
three
simultaneous processes to produce the realistic tone of the brass instrument. This unique technology by Yamaha uses the modeling of non-muted brass instruments to correct your instrument’s tone when the Pickup Mute is in place. With a combination of The
Personal Studio
and a
Pickup Mute
, the resulting sound is so realistic, it’s hard to tell whether the instrument is muted, or not.
1.
Eliminate the “Mute” Sound
Digital processing applied to the sound received by the mute’s
microphone effectively cancels the sonic characteristics of the mute.
2. Add Ambience
Another digital process brings back the natural sound of the un-muted instrument, and adds the characteristics of the acoustic environment through which the sound travels before returning to the player’s ears, making it sound as if you are playing without a mute at all.
3. Adjust Left/Right Balance
Digitally simulating how the sound returns to your ears—adjusting for the slight differences in volume, timbre, and delay between your left and right ears—and adding reverb constructs a virtual sound scape that makes it sound like you are playing in a large room or concert hall.

This jack allows an external sound source to be combined with the signal coming from the mute, such as an MP3 player, Tablet, Cell phone or CD Player. You can then play along with your favorite song in practice and performance settings, putting the fun back in your practice sessions.

- The disassembled mute body halves can be stacked for compact storage, and may even allow the mute to be stored inside the tuba bell while inside its case or gig bag!*
* Note: Yamaha tubas will not fit in the original equipment hard case with the tuba mute installed. However, the instrument may fit in other cases or gig bags from some manufacturers with the mute installed. Please confirm the fit independently. Do not stand the instrument on its bell when the mute is installed.
Adjustable Pitch and Playing Feel
- An adjustable rod allows the position of the mute head to be raised or lowered inside the bell while playing. This gives you the ability to customize the feel and the pitch to find the perfect fit for your own instrument and playing style. In addition, this allows the mute to be adjusted for a wide range of bell sizes, making the same tuba mute usable with with Bb, C, Eb, and F horns.
